Toyota delays opening of new Myanmar plant in wake of coup

BANGKOK -- Toyota Motor has decided to postpone the opening of a new plant in Myanmar amid heightened political uncertainty following the Feb. 1 coup, Nikkei Asia has learned. The plant was scheduled to open this month.

The Next Generation Automotive Research Center, Thailand Automotive Institute (TAI) summarizes Thai automotive industry in 2020; a total production number of motor vehicles were 1,427,27 units and a total number of domestic sales were 792,146 units, while a total export number were 735,842 units. These numbers were decreased from previous year in the same period; 29%, 21% and 30%, respectively. This was effect from COVID-19 pandemic that had caused economic slowdown. Nevertheless, these were as expected from Automotive Industry Club, The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI)
